Welcome to the Website for the

Code Purple Band

Code Purple is a five member Rock and Roll cover band based in Northern Virginia whose extensive play list covers songs from the 1950’s to present day.  The easygoing performance style of these seasoned musicians creates an atmosphere reminiscent of small rock and roll clubs of years past.

The band was formed in 1997 by a group of military service members assigned to the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon.  The name, “Code Purple” came about from military jargon that jokingly refers to the result of combining the colors of all the individual military service uniforms.

The members of the band are:

Bob Youmans, drummer

Al Hemphill, lead guitar and vocals

Paul Adler, keyboard and vocals

Doug Donnell, bass

Francie Donnell, rhythm guitar and vocals.

In their "other lives" Francie Donnell teaches music and the other members of the band have retired from active military service but continue working in the private or public sector.

Each member has brought to Code Purple the experience of playing with various groups from around the world and the excitement with which they perform reflects their love of rock and roll music.
